Julie Neff Confronts Physical and Emotional Limits on New Single “TRAPPED”

    May 21, 2026 / No Comments

Montreal Artist Continues Building Momentum Ahead of Debut Album Single Artwork – Julie Neff  Featuring a raw indie rock sound with a contemporary folk-pop edge, Montreal-based artist Julie Neff continues to establish herself as a compelling voice in Canada’s alternative music scene. Her work blends smoky, emotionally charged vocals with vulnerable songwriting that explores heartbreak, resilience, and self-discovery with striking intimacy. Drawing comparisons to artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, and Florence + The Machine, Neff moves fluidly between genres, balancing softness and grit, restraint and release, often within the same song. Over the past several years, Neff has steadily gained recognition from outlets including The Strombo Show and…

JeJune: Re-released Music Brings New Life to 90s Emo

    May 6, 2026 / No Comments

Written By Grace Horlings  JeJune brings emo back to its muddied roots, in a time when this label was less ironically cool and more of a scarring categorization.  Born out of the Berklee School of Music in Boston, JeJune encapsulates the melancholic, confusing, and most exciting time of a young person’s life. “JeJune” means to be “empty” or “lacking substance”,  an adolescent moody title that could only be brainstormed in the throes of post-secondary pretension. Their sound conjures up images of smart girls with guitars and faded, unbuttoned shirts that have become worn with every cycle they’ve spun in your parents’ washing machine. All of this noise is echoed through…

Canadian Indie Rock Music: Blu Beach Band’s Upcoming Album

    April 9, 2026 / No Comments

Blu Beach Band – Credit: Zach Shalley A rising name in Canada’s indie rock scene, Blu Beach Band is preparing to release their third studio album in June 2026. As part of that rollout, the Regina-based group is set to release their second single of the year, “Rock Band,” in April. The track blends elements of rock and funk, offering a candid and often humorous look at the realities of life as working musicians. Known for combining ‘70s yacht rock influences with modern indie-pop sounds, the band continues to refine a style that merges laid-back melodies with guitar-driven energy rooted in classic Canadian rock traditions. Drawing inspiration from artists such…

Album Review: All Cylinders by Yves Jarvis

    February 24, 2026 / No Comments

Written by Meghan Garner As part of a small writing project in one of my music classes, I got to review a Polaris Prize-winning album by a Canadian artist, Yves Jarvis, from Montreal. I listened extensively to his sixth album, All Cylinders, which includes eleven original songs (the deluxe version adds five extra tracks).  I wasn’t sure what to make of it at first, to be honest. But as I learned more about how Yves Jarvis composed and produced this album, I couldn’t help but admire Jarvis’s creativity and determination. He composed most of this album on a broken laptop in a small basement in Montreal. Up until this class…
