The Downtown Lethbridge Farmers’ Market is returning to Festival Square this week, bringing locally produced food, goods and vendors back to the heart of the city for another summer season.

The market begins Wednesday, July 8, and will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Wednesday until Aug. 26. Attendance is free.

Co-produced by Excite Lethbridge and the Downtown Lethbridge BRZ and presented by 94.1 CJOC, the weekly market offers visitors an opportunity to shop from local and provincial producers while spending time in downtown Lethbridge.

As an Alberta-approved farmers’ market, at least 80 per cent of the products available at the market must be made, baked or grown within the province.

Paul Kingsmith, Director of Event Development with Excite Lethbridge, said organizers have seen growing interest from vendors ahead of this year’s market season.

“The Downtown Lethbridge Farmers’ market is a tremendous partnership with the Downtown BRZ that brings the market into the heart of our city,” said Kingsmith. “We are seeing increased registrations from vendors and we know it will be a great season.”

Beyond shopping, organizers say the market is intended to create a gathering space for residents and encourage activity throughout the downtown core.

“The Downtown Farmers’ Market is more than a place to shop! It’s a place where our community comes together and each market day brings an unbeatable energy to downtown as visitors connect with local vendors and businesses,” said Sarah Amies, Executive Director of the Downtown Lethbridge BRZ. “We’re excited to welcome everyone back for another fantastic season.”

The Downtown Lethbridge Farmers’ Market runs every Wednesday from July 8 to Aug. 26 at Festival Square from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market is free to attend.
