LSCO Launches Campaign to Sustain Senior Services in Lethbridge

The Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization (LSCO) has launched the “Support Our Seniors” (SOS) campaign to address ongoing financial challenges and maintain programs and services for older adults in the community.

LSCO, a long-standing organization serving seniors in southern Alberta, has undertaken operational updates over the past year, including changes to internal systems, expanded programming, and new community partnerships. Despite these efforts, the organization reports continued financial strain due to rising operational costs, decreased revenue from gaming and grants, and ongoing impacts related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to LSCO Executive Director Kaitlynn Weaver, the organization has experienced several consecutive years of operating deficits, resulting in reduced financial reserves and concerns about long-term sustainability.

The SOS campaign has a fundraising target of $75,000, intended to stabilize finances and support continued access to programs, meals, and social services for seniors in Lethbridge.

Since March 2025, LSCO reports the following developments:

An increase of $47,000 in donations and fundraising, and $25,000 in program revenue
Updates to internal systems and policies aimed at improving operations
Growth in centre usage (13%), diner participation (18%), and program participation (17%)
A 45% increase in rental revenue
Attendance of more than 800 individuals at its 50th anniversary event
Partnerships with organizations including Westco Construction, Select People Solutions, Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre, and Winston Churchill High School
Establishment of the LSCO Endowment Fund to support long-term financial sustainability

In addition to fundraising efforts, LSCO states it is implementing cost-reduction measures and reviewing programming to align with its core services.
