- Position Title: Finance & Administrative Assistant
- Reports to: Business Manager
- Work Term: April 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027 (13-month term).
- Work Hours: Flexible scheduling up to a maximum of 20 hours per month, depending on operational needs.
- Minimum of 10 hours/month required in the on-campus office
- Compensation: $17–$22/hour (based on experience)
About the Role
The Finance & Administrative Assistant plays a key role in supporting the financial integrity, accountability, and day-to-day administrative operations of The Meliorist Publishing Society. Working under the supervision of the Business Manager, this position assists with bookkeeping functions, expense and reimbursement processing, maintaining accurate financial records, and other duties as assigned.
The role also helps ensure that budgets are monitored effectively and that financial documentation is prepared to support management and the Board of Directors’ decision-making. This position provides students with valuable, hands-on experience in nonprofit accounting and administration within a collaborative, student-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with bookkeeping by recording journal entries in our accounting software
- Prepare and process invoices, payments, and reimbursements
- Support monthly bank and account reconciliations
- Maintain organized, accurate financial records and documentation
- Assist in preparing financial reports for management and the Board, including supporting budget monitoring
- Assist with data entry and document management
- Identify areas for improvement and provide recommendations for changes to improve processes and procedures
- Maintain regular monthly office hours
- Communicate regularly with the Business Manager
- Maintain a professional and respectful representation of The Meliorist at all times.
Essential Skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities

- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Basic understanding of bookkeeping or accounting principles
