In recognition of International Women’s Day on March 8, Alberta Blue Cross and the Lois Hole Hospital Women’s Society are spotlighting their ongoing collaboration to improve access to women’s health information through the Between Us: Exploring the Mind & Body virtual lecture series.

The free online series creates an inclusive and welcoming space for conversations about women’s health. Participants can attend interactive sessions led by specialists on a range of topics and have the opportunity to ask questions directly during the discussions.

Hosted by the Lois Hole Hospital Women’s Society—one of the few hospital organizations in Canada dedicated specifically to women’s care—the lecture series brings together clinicians and researchers committed to advancing women’s health. Presentations often explore emerging research, new approaches to care, and practical insights for navigating common health concerns.

Georgia Miller, chair of the Lois Hole Hospital Women’s Society, says the initiative reflects the importance of accessible health education.

“International Women’s Day is a powerful reminder that when women are supported with knowledge and connection, entire families and communities benefit,” Miller said. “The Between Us series reflects our commitment to ensuring women feel heard, informed and empowered in their health journeys. We’re grateful to Alberta Blue Cross for helping us make these meaningful conversations accessible to women throughout Alberta.”

As a champion of wellbeing, Alberta Blue Cross has supported the series for seven years. In 2025 alone, more than 1,640 participants from across the province attended the virtual sessions. Topics included breast cancer detection, maternal mental health, perimenopause, and contraception.

Narissa Kanji, director of Community Impact at Alberta Blue Cross, says the partnership aims to create spaces where women feel comfortable discussing their health.

“At Alberta Blue Cross, we believe women deserve spaces where they can learn, ask questions and talk openly about their health without hesitation,” Kanji said. “We’re proud to partner with the Lois Hole Hospital Women’s Society to support Between Us and help create those meaningful conversations for women across Alberta.”

Attendees say the series has helped improve access to reliable information and foster a sense of connection. One participant shared that after attending a lecture, they “finally felt seen,” noting they had struggled for a long time without clear answers about their health concerns.

The next session in the series will take place on March 26. Titled “Between Us: An Interactive Talk on Pelvic Physiotherapy Management for Endometriosis,” the virtual event will explore treatment approaches for individuals living with endometriosis. Participants can register for the free talk on the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation website.
