Empowering Students to Bring Their Ideas to Life Through Print

The Meliorist is excited to announce the Printing Grant Initiative for the 2025–2026 academic year — a new micro-grant program designed to help students transform their creative, academic, and community-based projects into tangible printed works.

In an era increasingly dominated by digital media, print remains a powerful and enduring medium for sharing stories, research, and artistic expression. Through this initiative, The Meliorist aims to reduce financial barriers and provide students with the resources they need to publish their work and share their voices in meaningful, lasting ways.

About the Initiative

The Meliorist Printing Grant supports students who want to bring their ideas to life through small-scale print projects. By offering financial assistance for printing costs, we continue our mission to amplify diverse voices, foster student innovation, and strengthen the culture of storytelling and independent publishing across campus.

Program Goals:

  • Support students in producing meaningful printed materials.
  • Encourage creativity, collaboration, and independent publishing.
  • Strengthen community engagement through accessible and tangible works of expression.

These micro-grants are non-repayable and intended solely to cover printing costs — making it easier for students to share their ideas in print form.

Eligible Projects

The grant supports a wide range of print-based projects, including but not limited to:

  • Zines or mini-magazines
  • Research posters or infographics
  • Creative writing chapbooks
  • Art or photography booklets
  • Pamphlets, newsletters, and community resources

If your project uses print as a creative or educational medium, it’s likely eligible.

Who Can Apply

The Meliorist Printing Grant is open to:

  • All current undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Lethbridge.
  • Individuals or small groups leading student-driven, non-commercial projects.

Students from all faculties and disciplines are encouraged to apply — whether you’re creating an art book, a research poster, or a community resource, this grant is designed to help bring your vision to life.

Funding Details

  • Grant Amount: Between $50 and $250 per project, depending on scope and need.
  • Eligible Expenses: Printing costs only.
  • Ineligible Expenses: Design fees, other materials or equipment, and digital advertising.

Funds will be released upon approval to reduce upfront costs for students. Recipients will be asked to provide proof of printing or confirmation that the funds were used as intended once the project is complete.
