For some of you reading this, Lethbridge may be a big town compared to where you came from. For others, like me, who came from cities with not thousands but millions of people, Lethbridge can seem small, almost unassuming. I find Lethbridge to be the perfect size, not too big, not too small;, yet for many, Lethbridge seems bland, maybe even dull, and I believe that is certainly not the case. Lethbridge has a community that continues to grow by the day, with establishments full of culture and personality, and all-year-round events that bring colour to this windy town. And so, I have taken on the task of creating a list for all of you, featuring just some of the many events outside the University for any student or member of the Lethbridge community who wants to enjoy all that the city has to offer this October.
Farmers Market
Date: Every Saturday, from 8 am to 1 pm Location: Agri-Food Hub & Trade Center
Starting with what I would call an underrated classic is our own Farmers Market. Every Saturday of the year, local Lethbridge vendors, and even some out-of-town food trucks and businesses, put up stalls where they show all types of goodies, giving you a great opportunity to not only shop for fresh, sometimes cheaper and way better produce and home-baked goods than you can get at any store, but also discover great artisans and craftsmen.
Lethbridge Corn Maze
Date: Every day of the month! Location: 104051 Range RD 22-4
A yearly must-go to the corn maze is what my friends and I wait for every fall to open. Unlike its name, the Lethbridge Corn Maze is not simply a maze; even though the maze itself is a lot of fun, there are animals you can pet and feed, lovely picture places, maybe a food truck or two and plenty of pumpkins to buy alongside some local products. It’s a blast, and you may catch me there more than once, just to enjoy the fall spirit.
Wise Owl Pub Trivia
Date: 16th, 8 pm Location: The Owl
A personal favourite of mine, and one of many events The Owl hosts every month alongside open mics and jams, is this free-to-join trivia night. You just need five friends to sign up, and you will be part of this fun competition, where you may win some fun prizes as you enjoy the always great environment that the owl has.
Field of Screams
Date: From the 16th to the 31st Location: Spitz Stadium
Coming once again to Lethbridge, for a fourth year in a row, is the terrifying Field of Screams. If you want to enjoy theenjoy of the Halloween spirit, and wish to challenge how brave you really are, this yearly event converts the Spitz Stadium into a spooky haunted experience, made to make you jump and scream.
Gujarati Diwali Celebration
Date: 19th from 7 pm to 2 am Location: Agri-Food Hub & Trade Center
If you enjoy learning and immersing yourself in other people’s cultures and traditions, this Diwali celebration is a great opportunity to experience traditional food, music, and more, while also supporting and respecting the traditions that come with it.
Analog Book Club
Date: 19th at 3 pm Location: Analog Bookstore, Zoom
If you are a bookworm or even simply enjoy casual reading, Analog Bookstore always holds fun events for anyone interested in any kind of literature, constantly featuring book launches and talks with authors. This specific Book Club will feature Calgary author Niall Howell and discuss his book There Are Wolves Here Too. Held in the second half of the month, you have plenty of time to pick up the book and join, free of cost, the author and other readers in the discussion.
