While we still have some time to go before classes start in earnest, The Meliorist would like to Introduce you to our new senior staff and give you an update on how we will be operating this fall. With most of the university shut down, we will be limiting our number of printed copies. All content will be posted online, throughout the month. This means you get access to news as it happens and all without leaving your bed! Since there will be limited staff presence in our SU office, anyone who needs to contact us is encouraged to do so through email or Facebook Messenger.
We are also excited to hire some new editors, a designer and a marketing and website coordinator. More information on applying is available on our website and social media. A survey has also been released which gives you a chance to express your thoughts and concerns about the publication.
Our new Editor in Chief, Sorcha Deheer (she/her), is a fifth year history and education double major with a certificate in news editing. Sorcha is passionate about writing, gender studies and human rights. In the past she has focused her journalistic attention to local politics, protests, news, Canadian history and the occasional academic article. You can reach her at eic@themeliorist.ca.
Our new Business Manager, Mikey Lewis (she/they), is a queer creative, researcher, and recent ULeth graduate (BA, Anthropology & Religious Studies, 2020) who’s passionate about anything that combines art and words with the political issues close to her heart. Mikey is planning to spend the next year focused on her creative pursuits, journalism, and supporting rural youth, with hopes to pursue a Master’s degree post-Covid. You can reach her at business@themeliorist.ca
