The University of Lethbridge is reviewing the University Master Plan (UMP) that was developed in 1969 with Canadian architect Arthur Erickson, the same architect responsible for the award-winning University Hall structure here on campus. Erickson had originally designed much of the campus through expansion over the subsequent several decades, though there have already been several incarnations of the UMP that have been developed and revised. Premier Alison Redford has called an election, bringing the leading parties of the PC and WRA into a neck-and-neck race for government of Alberta. Election Day, to be held on April 23, 2012, will be an important day for Albertans curious about the direction of their province’s future. With a 40-year Progressive Conservative government running against swiftly-rising popularity vote for the Wildrose Party, mainstream media sources are polling potential voters in an effort to try and predict the outcome of this race.

City councillors under fire

When the town of Coalbanks (now Lethbridge) was established in 1876, it looked very different from how it looks today. Settlers built their homes down in the river valley close to the Oldman River where access to water, game, and coal was easy and plentiful. As with many frontier towns established in the late 19thcentury, Lethbridge adhered to a strict set of bylaws enforced by the then-present Northwest Mounted Police. The City announced on Wednesday that an independent study of the water table in and around Lethbridge, as well as our reservoir system for drinking water, has shown near-toxic levels of dihydrogen monoxide. This dangerous chemical, a silent killer and a world-wide pandemic, is one of the most under-reported and least-checked-for chemicals in the water system despite its prevalence.
Citizens who suspect they have been poisoned should contact their physician immediately. Hypochondriacs in particular are susceptible to this poisoning.

Breaking news : University announces massive tuition increases

The University of Lethbridge announced Wednesday that students can expect a tuition increase of 300 per cent over the next three years due to a sudden increased cost in funding to the make-work committees run through administration. The increases are planned to take effect in September 2012 when the newly installed “privatization of relaxation facilities” committee is slated to take effect. Students around campus can expect to find private infrared saunas and Jacuzzis installed into professors’ offices and tanning beds to be located in some dorm common areas.
