Sometimes, an election is like a pizza. It gets better if you keep it in your refrigerator, and then find it a few days later when you “haz the munchies.” Although there are some students who are weary of hearing about what some ULSU insiders describe as the most exciting time of year (only about 21% of students bother themselves with such things), it is time again for posters and promises, voting and victory, and round two of the 2009/2010 General Election for the ULSU.

When Ryan was 17, he became agoraphobic. Because of his cystic fibrosis, Ryan is confined to a wheelchair and can’t get out often. He recalls, “By ‘92 the wheelchair was no longer a viable option for me, and it stayed that way for a long time.” This has made living what would be considered a “normal” life difficult for Ryan to say the least. Recent monetary constraints to Alberta’s Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program, have left many Albertans uneasy about the future of living with a disability.
“I want to reassure Albertans with developmental disabilities and their families that they are and will remain a high priority for me and this government. I am saddened that some are making these individuals and others across the province worried about possible changes to the supports provided by the PDD program,” says Mary Anne Jablonski, Minister for Seniors and Community Supports.
